Tips for the Cold Season
Warmth and Comfort
Ayurveda makes it easier for you to maintain good health or, if necessary, improve your health. The many thousands of factors that influence our health are summarized into three basic functional principles (Doshas), which simplifies things greatly.
These 3 Doshas are called Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. They govern both the external nature around us and the nature of our mind-body system. If these three Doshas are in their individual balance, we enjoy perfect health, feel good, and radiate natural beauty.
Many factors influence the balance of the Doshas – for example, our daily routine, food, and the seasons. The tips presented here are intended to help you maintain your inner balance. Consider these tips as recommendations, not strict rules, and introduce changes to your diet or lifestyle step by step, because Ayurveda should be an enrichment to your life, not a restriction. Trying new things, enjoying them, and feeling good are important here.
Nutrition
In winter, due to the external cold, the internal "Agni" – digestive fire – is usually stronger than in other seasons. Therefore, you can now eat something heartier and richer. Food that is too light would cause the strong digestive fire to break down body tissue and unbalance Vata. Similarly, wind and cold cause an increase in the Vata Dosha. This is easier to understand when one knows that the main characteristics "airy," "dry," "cold," and "irregular" are attributed to the Vata Dosha. Therefore, the following Vata-reducing measures are particularly recommended in autumn and winter.
