Avoid exhaustion, live energetically

date 2025 December 27

Stress – hardly any other term describes the feeling of life in our hectic world more accurately. Permanent overexertion for body and mind has almost become the norm for many people. This can lead to a persistent feeling of exhaustion. Often noticed too late, it takes the place of the actually normal experience of "quiet energy". In Ayurveda, a constant state of low tension and a high energy level is considered the basis for optimism, endurance, success in actions, and feelings of love and happiness.

By following some simple recommendations of Maharishi Ayurveda, you can avoid the cycle of tension and exhaustion, restore your inner balance, and eliminate the main causes of stress-induced exhaustion.

According to Maharishi Ayurveda, the underlying cause of exhaustion or burnout is the excessive, incorrect, or insufficient use of body, mind, or emotions.

Therefore, try to identify the cause of tension. Ask yourself whether your exhaustion is due to physical, mental, or emotional factors. Here are some examples:

Perhaps you work too much? Even if your tasks come easily to you, excessively long working days can permanently exceed your physical and mental capacities and lead to exhaustion.

Or you, as an upright and honest person, constantly find yourself in situations where you feel compelled to act against your nature and tell a lie. Then this would be an example of an abusive strain on your mental faculties that can exhaust you in the long run.

A simple connection can be made if you use your physical strength incorrectly or excessively, for example by performing tasks even though they exceed your physical capabilities.

However, it is more difficult to find out that the cause of emotional exhaustion, for example, can also be that you, as perhaps a delicate and empathetic person, are surrounded by people who are constantly irritable and angry, which can emotionally overload you.

Even a lack of use of body, mind, and emotions can lead to exhaustion. For example, ask yourself whether you get enough exercise, feel mentally challenged, and are emotionally balanced.

Important: Learn up to what point you feel comfortable and when stress begins for you. Try to find solutions to the problem of your exhaustion by avoiding excessive, incorrect, or insufficient use of body, mind, or emotions.

Exhaustion and the balance of the doshas

There is a relationship between the three doshas and the three main causes of exhaustion. Thus, the excessive, incorrect, or insufficient use of body, mind, or emotions can cause a dosha imbalance. Likewise, a dosha imbalance can be the cause of a state of exhaustion.

Maharishi Ayurveda recommendations for dealing with exhaustion

Vata-reducing measures are recommended for most types of exhaustion:

  • Try to follow a Vata-reducing diet and daily routine
  • Drink Vata tea and Nimm’s leicht tea more often
  • Go to bed early and avoid mental activity shortly before bedtime
  • Use various food supplements that your Ayurvedic doctor can recommend

Try to reduce your consumption of coffee, cola, caffeinated teas, and sleeping pills to allow your body a natural cycle of rest and activity.

If possible, plan enough rest into your daily routine every day. The human body and its nervous system are not designed for constant tension, pressure, speed, and excitement. The body needs sufficient rest for the natural regeneration of energy and joy of life.

Integrate the practice of a relaxation technique, such as Transcendental Meditation, into your daily routine. Extensive research has documented its positive effects on physical and mental well-being.

Avoid reheated food, fast food, chemically contaminated foods, as well as packaged, processed, and frozen foods. They create Ama (accumulated metabolic waste, see note) in the body. Excessive Ama is a major cause of all three types of exhaustion.

A trained Maharishi Ayurveda doctor will give you individual recommendations that are precisely tailored to your body type and your specific dosha situation. A list of addresses of Maharishi Ayurveda doctors and naturopaths can be obtained from the German Society for Ayurveda.
