Our 30-day tips for your health

We at Maharishi Ayurveda® Europe is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. For us, this is a welcome opportunity to support your health and wellbeing with 30-day tips. Discover the diversity of Maharishi Ayurveda – in small steps of 30 days each.

Tip 1: The right water for your constitution

It is not without reason that the Ayurvedic hot water cure is particularly well-known and popular. Water is both a vital source of life and a purifier. Boiling further enhances the energy and quality of the water, helping to stimulate your ‘digestive fire’, Agni, for example. Simply boil water in an uncovered saucepan for about ten minutes in the morning, pour it into a thermos flask and drink small amounts of hot water regularly throughout the day.

Here’s our ‘30-day tip’ for you to try out: why not tailor the way you prepare the water to your constitution or dosha type (Vata, Pitta, Kapha)? Here’s how to do it:

Warm water for the Vata type Ingredients
  • 2 Litres of water
  • 3 Mint leaves
  • ½ Tsp fennel seeds
  • ¼ Tsp marshmallow root

Method

  • Boil the water for 5 minutes
  • Take off the hob
  • Add the spices
  • Pour water into a thermos flask
As a Vata type, it is best to drink the water warm, but not too hot – in small sips throughout the day.Water for the Pitta type Ingredients
    • 2 Litres of water
    • ¼ Tsp fennel seeds
    • 2 Rosebuds
    • 1 Clove

    Method

    • Boil the water for 2 minutes
    • Take off the hob
    • Add the spices
    • Pour water into a thermos flask
As a Pitta type, you already carry a lot of internal heat. Your water will therefore be particularly beneficial if you let it cool down in a cup for a while before drinking it. In winter, it can be a little warmer for Pitta types, whilst in summer, room temperature is sufficient. Enjoy the water in small sips throughout the day Hot water for the Kapha type Ingredients
    • 2 Litres of water
    • 3 Basil leaves
    • 2 Thin slices of fresh ginger
    • ¼ Tsp cumin
    • ½ Tsp fennel
    Method
    • Boil the water for 5 minutes
    • Take off the hob
    • Add the spices
    • Pour water into a thermos flask
As Kapha types tend to feel the cold more easily, you should feel free to drink your water warm or even hot. The herbs it contains – basil, ginger and cumin – will also help to warm you from the inside. Drink the water in sips throughout the day. Dosha Test Don’t know your Ayurvedic constitution type yet?
