Balance and harmony through the healing sounds of nature

Music uplifts our mood, allows us to dream or become melancholic, delights or entertains us. Did you know that music can also heal? Thousands of years ago, Ayurvedic texts described the healing power of music in the form of primordial sounds, Vedic recitations, and "Gandharva Veda" music. Therefore, "Gandharva Veda Music Therapy" is an important approach of Maharishi Ayurveda for health and well-being, which we would like to introduce to you in more detail today.
Even the classic foundational work of Ayurveda, the Charaka Samhita, describes specific effects of Vedic music on human health and its surroundings (Charaka, Siddhisthana, 6/85).
This is how you gently find inner harmony.
Why do these legendary sounds have such a relaxing effect?
Gandharva Veda music is described as "music in harmony with the laws of nature" or "the eternal melody of creation."
What does that mean? The seers and sages of the Vedic high culture in ancient India perceived the "melodies of nature" in the perfect stillness of their own consciousness and sang or played this music to bring peace, health, and harmony to others. These eternal melodies of nature gently connect us with our inner self, our own nature; they have an integrating effect on body, mind, and consciousness.
We owe the traditional transmissions of Gandharva Veda to a few still-existing traditions of great masters of classical Indian music. When the healing sounds of Gandharva Veda music are played in an authentic form, it leads to wonderful tranquility, relaxation, and serenity.
This allows us to regenerate physically and mentally, neutralizing tension and stress.
How to best use this form of music? Listening tips.
Since the melodies of Gandharva Veda reflect the changing rhythms and cycles of nature at different times of the day, the musical pieces should ideally be played at the specified day and night times. A morning raga, a morning melody, is therefore different from an evening raga.
Maharishi Gandharva Veda music is fundamentally different from entertainment music. Listeners hearing Gandharva Veda music for the first time may find the sounds strange and take some getting used to; they may even become a little restless. Therefore, especially at the beginning, take some time to let the sounds sink in. You don't have to listen to an entire piece of music right away. Just a few minutes of this timeless healing music are enough to start.

Just let the music affect you. Pay more attention to your body instead of analyzing the unfamiliar sounds. Lean back and close your eyes if you like.
This allows body and mind to calm down; tension can release, and you heal yourself naturally.
Which instrument do you like?
Maharishi Gandharva Veda uses various instruments: string, wind, and rhythm instruments.
The soft sound of the bamboo flute is often perceived as very pleasant and familiar. These magical sounds soothe the Vata Dosha, which, according to Ayurveda, is associated with the nervous system.
The sitar, a string instrument also well-known in the West, is also very beneficial. The sounds of the Shennai (shawm) are often experienced as particularly regenerating and refreshing.
Singing (Gitam) holds the highest place in Gandharva Veda music, considered its crowning glory, but is sometimes described as an unusual experience. This usually changes very quickly.
Indispensable accompanying instruments for every Gandharva Veda performance or recording are the string instrument Tambura and the Tabla, the rhythm instrument.
Try it out. We offer a large assortment of first-class Gandharva Veda music with some of India's most renowned musicians.
Choose from eight time segments
You can listen to Gandharva Veda music at any time of day, for example, in the morning after waking up, during your lunch break, after work, or in the evening. The playing times are based on the day and night rhythm and on three-hour periods (Praharas). However, there are also pieces that can be heard at any time of day.
Wellness Tip:
To prepare for a relaxing and regenerating night's sleep, scent your bedroom with high-quality essential oils, for example, "Nidra Aroma Oil," an exclusive fragrance composition of lavender, bergamot, orange, and marjoram, and enjoy an evening melody of Gandharva Veda with it.
Some Gandharva Veda melodies have special themes such as "Joy," "Success," "Serene Calm," or "Better Sleep."
So you can also choose a melody based on a desired effect. The themes of the respective musical pieces can be found on each CD (viewable in our shop).
We wish you much joy with the eternal music of nature.
