Jeden Tag verlieren wir bis zu 14 Gramm abgestorbene Hautzellen. Daher bilden sich ständig neue Hautzellen und nach einigen Wochen haben wir eine vollständig neue Haut. An diesem Prozess ist auch Eisen beteiligt, das für die Zellteilung und die Sauerstoffversorgung der Haut benötigt wird.

Mit zunehmendem Alter verlangsamen sich jedoch der Zellstoffwechsel und die Produktion von Collagen und Elastin. Dann können sich Toxine bilden und die abgestorbenen Hautschichten bleiben länger auf der Haut, geben der Haut eine gröbere Textur, sie wird stumpf und glanzlos.
